[Webinar] Global Launch of Designing Streets for Kids: Presenting New Design Guidance for Child-Focused Urban Streets

August 12, 2020 7:00 am EST

NACTO-GDCI, in partnership with the Bernard van Leer Foundation, the FIA Foundation, Fondation Botnar, and Bloomberg Philanthropies hosted an online event discussing how cities can apply the guidance and strategies highlighted in Designing Streets for Kids. Streets connect neighborhoods, provide access to the city, serve local economies, and host critical services. The way streets are designed affects our quality of life, impacts the air we breathe, influences the economic vitality of our cities, and informs our mobility choices—particularly for children and their caregivers. NACTO-GDCI’s newly-released design guidance will pave the way for cities to implement streets that are safe and healthy, comfortable and convenient, and inspirational and educational—cities that better serve everyone. During this event we introduced Designing Streets for Kids; discussed the many benefits of sustainable and kid-friendly street design; and touched on the critical role streets can play in COVID-19 response and recovery.
