In 2014, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a new phase of the foundation’s Global Road Safety Initiative, committing $125 million to the goal of reducing fatalities and injuries from road traffic crashes. Focusing in 10 selected cities, the program brings together some of the world’s leading experts in road safety, to establish an elite network of visionary municipal leaders who commit to implementing bold, new efforts to save lives and protect their citizens from road traffic injuries.

Global giants Janette Sadik-Khan (Transport Principal, Bloomberg Associates and Chair of Global Designing Cities Initiative), and Salvador Rueda (Director of Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona) arrived in New Zealand’s capital to back the sustainable street changes that are putting people at the heart of Wellington’s streets.
