In March 2026, GDCI will launch a series of open and global webinar sessions on Designing for Safe Speeds —our latest supplement to the award-winning Global Street Design Guide. The series will explore key principles from the guide, share practical design strategies, and highlight real-world examples that demonstrate how cities are managing speeds and saving lives.

This research study presents comprehensive strategic recommendations on how to improve motorcycle safety in Africa. The study will serve as policy advice and technical assistance to the Bank’s regional member countries (RMCs). The study focuses on motorcycle safety conditions in Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, and Uganda, where the use of motorcycles for daily activities is reputedly high.
The Making Roads Motorcycle Friendly Guide provides guidance on designing and maintaining roads so that they better consider the safety needs of motorcyclists.
The 2025 Vision of the Inter-American Development Bank, called “Reinvest in the Americas. A decade of opportunities”, aims to help boost the recovery of the region after the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In this sense, collective measures must be taken to build -among other needs- stronger and healthier societies. The reduction of mortality caused by traffic is therefore imperative to contribute to the achievement of the objectives set.
The Safe System approach highlights that a shared response is required to address road safety. This means that road users will continue to take responsibility for their actions, for instance by being alert and compliant with road rules. However, it is also recognized that road managers and designers have a significant responsibility to provide a road system that protects all road users. This can be achieved through appropriate designs of roads.
